Introduction Informal settlements are areas where there is a lot of housing grouped together. These houses units have been constructed on land that the occupants have no legal claim to. These houses which are unplanned settlements were built so they can be offered to people who are struggling to support their families and themselves. These houses are built so they can help struggling people until they can get back on their feet but now people are living in them permanently because most of them cannot get back on their feet. Joe was the guy who owned the land at the time and that Joe was a helping person who helped people by giving them some of the land he owned. As people started to live in Joe’s land, Joe welcomed them and did nothing and as the place got more populated it gained its name as Jika Joe. Joe died a long time ago but since the title deed is with his family the people of Jika Joe can still live there. We were told that back in the days their Justice system was to execute the person who did a wrong thing in the village. The people of Jika Joe did not want to go because this place meant that they have to use their money that they earned to support their families to go in and out of the city which would mean less money for them to spend supporting their families on basic needs like food etc. Crime Jika Joe it is known for having a lot of criminals around the place. There was a man who raped an elderly woman not long ago when we went to Jika Joe, before this person was prosecuted he ran away and he never came back to Jika Joe. While going in Jika Joe and seeing around, we were told that policemen come to Jika Joe about 5 to 6 times a day to check on crime and keep the peace. Which means that if the police don’t come to check on Jika Joe the crime rate would be through the roof. People As we move in more and more into the deeper parts of Jika Joe, we saw people putting up good or brave faces for us and acting like everything is fine but we could see that they were faking it and you can see that some of the people have hope that one day they will get out of here even if they are in this not so good place (Jika
