Who really murdered Jay Gatsby? In the novel “The Great Gatsby”, Jay Gatsby is murdered by George Wilson, husband of Myrtle Wilson who was killed when she wasn’t hit by Gatsby’s car. But, Wilson didn’t know that it was Gatsby who was driving, until Tom Buchannan told him. What Tom didn’t know was that it was Daisy, not Gatsby, who killed Myrtle. Gatsby revealed to Nick that daisy was driving when he says, “ you see, when we left New York, she was very nervous and she thought it would steady her to drive- and this woman rushed out at us just as we were passing a car coming the other way. It all happened in a minute, but it seemed to me she wanted to speak to us, thought we were somebody she knew.”(Fitzgerald 143). Gatsby then says, “But of Course I’ll say I was driving” (Fitzgerald 143), and he takes the blame. Gatsby virtually set himself up for disaster by claiming it was he who killed Myrtle.
They are three people that are responsible for Jay Gatsby’s death. One of them is directly to blame, since he pulled the trigger. The other four took part in this murder. The one who pulled the trigger was George Wilson. George was really emotional because of his wife’s murder. George really loved his wife, and he was really in grief. George thought that Gatsby was myrtle lover. He said “It was the man in that car. She ran out to speak to him and he wouldn’t stop.”(Fitzgerald159). George thinks that Myrtle knew the owner of yellow car. Since Wilson had found out about the offer, he must have thought that Gatsby was driving the car and ran over Myrtle, when in reality was innocent. George should have found out who was driving the car rather than who own it. George killed Gatsby because of lie told by Tom Buchannan.

Tom Buchannan is not fully responsible for Jay Gatsby’s death because others were also involved in the murder. Tom Buchannan played a part as well as his wife, George Wilson and Gatsby himself took part in it. The major role for this death was from Daisy. Daisy is the main killer of Myrtle, which led to Gatsby’s death. Daisy only cared about Gatsby’s money not Gatsby himself. Gatsby and Nick are from a working background but Daisy is not. Tom and Daisy didn’t care about if they hurt the felling of others they only cared for themselves. If daisy truly loved Gatsby she would have told Wilson that it was her not Gatsby who ran over Myrtle.

Tom had money, Daisy knew this. She acknowledged that his money was inherited and that held the love in their relationship. She found that Gatsby grew up underprivileged, and he was supposed to inherit money from a man by the name of Dan Cody, but that opportunity fell through. Gatsby attempts to depict his life as though he inherited his money, but “even Daisy appears unable to cope with the reality of Gatsby’s lower class background”(W) Everyone that attends Gatsby’s lavish parties realize, “Gatsby is never truly one of the elite—his dream is just a facade”(W). As hard as Gatsby tried, everyone could see through his fabrications and lavish parties, most importantly Daisy. She knew his true background and didn’t love him because of it. She wanted a man whose money was inherited, not earned like Gatsby’s. “Both Gatsby and Tom Buchanan, Daisy's husband, possessed wealth. Gatsby at least used his wealth to seek out beauty and claim it for himself. Buchanan the lecher lacked any larger goals. In the end, Daisy chooses to remain with Buchanan, and Gatsby is murdered by the deranged husband of Myrtle Wilson, Buchanan's mistress, who had been accidentally run down and killed by Daisy. The love shown by Gatsby towards Daisy, “’I want to wait here till Daisy goes to bed. Good night, old sport.’ He put his hands in his coat pockets and turned back eagerly to his scrutiny of the house as though my presence marred the sacredness of the vigil. So I walked away and left him standing there in the moonlight – watching over nothing” (Fitzgerald 145).
There are many conspiracies in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. One of them that many people believe is that Daisy Buchanan had killed Myrtle Wilson on purpose. Myrtle was Tom Buchanan’s mistress. Tom and Daisy were married and had a child but that didn’t stop Tom from cheating on her. At the same time, Daisy was having an affair with Jay Gatsby who was her childhood lover. There is much evidence that can prove that Daisy and Tom set up to kill Myrtle and put the blame on Gatsby.
...but it seems like Gatsby has assumed the fault of Tom. George not only believes Jay ran over his wife, but also kills Gatsby thinking that Gatsby had an affair with Myrtle. So, it is justiciable to blame Tom for his irresponsibility for Gatsby’s death.

We all make mistakes in our life, love can influence our decisions greatly, but what’s important in life is setting your priorities straight, becoming a better person from our mistakes, and lastly, loving a person for whom they are on the inside rather than any material possessions or looks.
The car pulled up to Wilson’s garage. Instantly, anger filled my body. Myrtle should be alive. Myrtle should be here. But instead, that man- this man- let her go and get herself killed. I knew who it was. Gatsby. He was one with the yellow car. He was the one driving. God knows, he wouldn’t let Daisy drive.
Gatsby’s obsession with Daisy leads to his death when he allows Daisy to drive his car when they go home from the city. Gatsby was so devoted Daisy that he would not let her take the blame for hitting and killing Myrtle. When no one confessed for the crime, George Wilson started to go from garage to garage trying to find the owner of the yellow car that killed his wife. Eventually, George arrived at the Buchanan residence, where Tom insinuated that Gatsby was the one who was driving the car and who was Myrtle’s lover. While George was at their house, Daisy did not come forward and reveal that she was the one driving the car, letting George believe Gatsby was at fault. He may be a liar, but readers empathize with him as his only fault for being dishonest is his love for Daisy and being so blind to see that she is not worthy of that adoration.
Their choices led to the death of Myrtle, Gatsby and Wilson. Myrtle wouldn 't have died if Tom didn 't cheat on Daisy. Tom 's choice to stray from his wife caused Myrtle to run out into the road because she thought Jordan was Tom 's wife so she ran to stop the car. The car was actually being driven by Daisy who was accompanied by Gatsby. This accident also put Daisy at fault because if she hadn’t of cheated as well, her and Tom never would have had the argument about her love for Gatsby. This would have prevented the accident altogether. Tom was also at fault for telling Wilson who the owner of the car was which was Gatsby. Although Gatsby wasn 't the one driving, he ended up with the blame for it. Wilson wasn 't in the right mindset and went to Gatsby 's house and shot him. Gatsby was found floating in the pool on an air mattress looking up at the sky. Wilson was found not too far away on the grass. All of these deaths were a result of Tom and Daisy not thinking through the choices they made, knowing that they had their money to fall back on if anything were to ever go
George Wilson who is married to Myrtle, and Tom Buchanan, married to Daisy, are most responsible for Gatsby's death. Wilson went up to Tom asking who owned the yellow car that killed his wife. Tom revealed that it was Gatsby’s car knowing that Wilson had intentions of killing whoever owned the car, yet Tom didn’t add in the fact that Daisy was driving. Gatsby did have a relationship with Daisy, and Tom knew about it.
