About 214 million people in the United States that can drive, but some take the advantage of the drive to extremes. When we drive, we are putting ourselves and others in dangerous situation throughout the day. Driving can cause accidents at a construction site, also some accidents can be caused by bad weather and drunk drivers make the wrong decision to drive when they are not supposed to. Many could drive every day but they have to watch out for some dangers and irresponsible drivers. Many drivers do not follow the signs at a construction zone. Firstly, some people do not slow down in a bad weather condition, because they are only thinking about themselves and not others. Secondly, people tailgate behind others, because they do not think about what about what about happen if the person ahead of them brakes and they do not have time. Driving is the riskiest activity in our lives. It is an inherently "unsafe" environment. The most perfect vehicles on the best designed highways on beautiful sunny days driven by fallible human beings crash into each other. The only way to drive "safely" (as we are all admonished to do!) is to learn more about the process. Learn more about your vehicle and how to maintain it; learn how to use your eyes to look far down the road; learn to spot problems before they happen; and also learn to deal with emergency situations. In most cases it's the human element that fails. After all, safe is only as safe does.
The biggest problem with drunk driving by young adults is the high rate of traffic accidents. Although young drivers ages 16 through 25 makeup only 15% of U.S. licensed drivers, they constitute 30 percent of all alcohol-related driving fatalities. This is double the amount of licensed drivers in that age group. Inexperience with both drinking and driving may contribute to this disproportionate rate. Nationwide in 1996, people ages 15 to 24 died in fatal motor vehicle crashes and 45 percent of those deaths were a result of alcohol (NHTSA 4). So it comes to no surprise that traffic crashes are the leading cause of death in the United States for people younger than 25 (NCHS 98).
