Today, impact of the harsh attempts of assimilation through residential schools and the sixty scoop has resulted Indigenous persons to experience marginalization, joblessness, poverty, family violence, drug and alcohol abuse, emotional, and sexual abuse, family breakdown, homelessness, imprisonment, and early death (Government of Canada, 1996).
