Inhumanity Theme In Night

529 Words2 Pages

In the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, Elie states, “Blessed be God’s name? Why, but why would I bless him?” (Wiesel 67). Inhumanity led to the division of religion and it also led to the loss of hope. Two significant themes when faced with inhumanity is wanting to give up and the loss of faith. Inhumanity can destroy a person not only mentally but physically. For example Elie’s father towards the end of the book states, “ I can’t go on anymore… Have pity on me… you cannot stay here: I pointed to the corpses around him; they too wanted to stay here. “I see, my son. I do see them. Let them sleep.”(105). Elie’s father just wanted to give up even though Elie showed him the dead corpses, and told him what would happen if they where to stay there.
