1. Torture is a practice that has been carried out throughout history. It is viewed by some as a necessary tool to help counter terrorism. That it is the only way to get important info from ruthless creatures. But I remind you that we are all human. Creatures that can think and reason. If these people can think and create these nefarious plans, Knowing full well the consequences of their acts, then it will take much more than you knocking them around to change the darkness in their hearts!

If torture really is the only way to reach depraved, twisted and broken minds, then why not use it everywhere? For people that are parents or legal guardians of people with autism and developmental delays treating and managing their symptoms can be a daunting task. Places like the The Judge Rotenberg Center (JRC, originally founded as the Behavior Research Institute) Located in Canton, is a residential facility that uses behavioral treatments, methodologies and educational services to work with children and adults with severe developmental disabilities and emotional or behavioral disorders. They reward good behavior with privileges and aid in finding a job. But one wrong step and you’ll be treated like a terrorist. In 2002, an autistic student named Andre McCollins who attended JRC, was strapped down and given electric shocks for hours, leaving him with burns and permanent brain damage. All because Andre refused to take off his jacket. All students at JRC are required to wear Graduated Electronic Decelerator at all times so that can deliver shocks administered by the JRC whenever they feel a student has done something wrong, similar to an electric dog collar. The staff was instructed to shock students for behaviors such as rocking back and forth, not paying attention, closing their eyes or tearing a paper cup.

I am writing to you today to express my concerns over the current NSA spying programs. It is my right at a citizen to share my beliefs about how our government is handling its surveillance. I am a 48-year-old doctor from Oklahoma and I know I am not the only one who has concerns about the government spying on us. Firstly, what the government and NSA is doing is simply illegal. There’s no denying this. They have violated our unalienable right to privacy. The 4th Amendment of our Constitution clearly states that our privacy must not be infringed upon without a warrant. It has been a very effective means of extracting information. The practice of torture was originally used on slaves to increase productivity. It later proved to be an efficient approach to force individuals to disclose information. Many civilizations have used this practice throughout history, each with their own unique way. The Greeks used a technique known as the brazen bull. This approach consisted of a victim to be placed in an iron bull and steamed alive (Blinderman, 1). A very gruesome and agonizing approach but widely accepted at the time because it delivered results. Torture, though a controversial topic today, should be acceptable, because firstly, it can lead to the gathering crucial intelligence, secondly, it is a quick approach to gain said information, and finally, it is can be sanctioned in an ethical aspect.

Torture can prevent the attacks resulting in terror or can go and prove no one, no one can infringe the right of Americans in the result of another attack, and therefore torture is justifiable. The similarities between ISIS and Al Qaeda is scary and torture needs to be in the back pocket of all officials to prevent similar disasters. The clock stopped ticking on 9-11, and anyone on the street can tell oneself where they were the minute they heard. The use of torture could save the lives of thousands, send the message that America is in charge, and can become more commonly accepted in the eyes of disaster. A ticking bomb could be going off at any time, it could destroy a spouse, a son, a daughter, a friend, a neighbor, or maybe the threat is to oneself, torture could get the information to destroy the bomb before it destroys one’s life. Being in prison for life can be a real challenge, the inmates wake up early in the morning and if lucky they can take a shower with cold water. They brush their teeth and depending on the correctional facility the inmates are able to go outside to spend some time to play a sport, do physical training, or just walk and talk with other inmates. The most trusted inmates get jobs inside the facility and some even are able to get into school. Serving life in prison can be really hard, the offender has to get used to doing exactly the same thing each day, eating the same type of food, seeing the same people, walking through the same halls.
