The game ended with the New England Patriates defeated the Seattle Seahawks 28-24. The balls used by the Patriates put in Tom Brady’s hands had been deflated prior to the game. The game was played in an over cast and rainy weather forecast. In the 2015 AFC Championship Game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts, the Patriots were accused of tampering with their footballs. They allegedly deflated the footballs to 2 PSI below the legal limit, supposedly giving them an unconstituted and illegal advantage. On May 11th, 2015, the National Football League ruled that the Patriots organization was guilty, penalizing them with a 1 million dollar fine, the loss of a first round pick in the 2016 NFL draft, and the loss of a fourth round pick in the 2017 draft. Tom Brady, the quarterback, was personally penalized with a four-game suspension for his involvement in the incident. He claims, however, to be innocent and has been exhausting every possible legal avenue to avoid his punishment.

The National Football League has always been evolved in some sort of scandal and Nick Anderson, the cartoonist of Football Emergency, has a very strong opinion of the NFL. His cartoon is easy enough for anyone to understand whether or not they follow the NFL but is much more interesting with a little football knowledge. He tries to argue that the NFL is focusing on useless scandals like deflated footballs instead of the more pressing issues of domestic violence and concussions.

However Tom Brady wasn't always as good as he is now he started from the bottom like everyone else.
The NFL has multiple reasons for maintaining a tough drug policy. Former NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle stated that serious health problems occur for players who abuse drugs. Additionally, since the NFL is a billion dollar business, they have an interest in maximizing productivity from its players and alcohol abuse hinders that. It says in the Marquette Sport Law Journal, “The league has an interest in protecting the safety of all players” (Sisson and Trexell 11). Players who abuse alcohol or any drug for that matter put themselves and other players at risk. In 2012, Dallas Cowboy defensive tackle Josh Brent killed his teammate while driving under the influence of alcohol. He was released by the team three weeks after the incident and does not play in the NFL anymore. There are numerous incidents of players getting into trouble because of alcohol.

Per utilitarian ethics, no matter the link between football and CTE, the research the NFL’s actions would be considered ethical. Lack of certainty in the research makes deontological ethics more difficult to implement. Since the research did not directly related football to the brain injuries, there is not the same obligation to disclose research that is not definite. Parallel to if the information was conclusive the NFL fell into the ethical traps of money and conflict of interest. The NFL still had to wrestle with ethical traps even if the it was considered ethical to not disclose the research.
