OVERVIEW
Let us put your most dreaded fear to rest right away. Fibroids are not cancerous. Only a 0.5 percent cases may turn cancerous. That today is an established fact.
Mostly, Fibroids are a benign kind of muscular tumour, or non-cancerous growths of the uterus that may appear inside, on the wall, or outside the wall of the uterus, and is quite common among women in the 30-45 age bracket. In many cases, Fibroids go undetected, because they cause no problems. Also called Laiyomyomas or Myomas, Fibroids may grow slowly, rapidly or even shrink and disappear on their own. They vary in size, from that of seedlings to bulky masses, the size of a melon or more. Medical intervention becomes necessary when women start exhibiting symptoms of Fibroid …show more content…

Fibroids that grow inside the Uterus cavity, called Submucosal Fibroids are likely to cause prolonged heavy menstrual bleeding.
Fibroids that project to the outside of the uterus called Subserosal Fibroids can sometimes press on your bladder, causing you to experience urinary symptoms whereas if they bulge from the back of your uterus, they occasionally can press either on the rectum, causing a pressure sensation, or on your spinal nerves and backache.
Intramural Fibroids grow within the muscular uterine wall. If large enough, they can distort the shape of the uterus and cause prolonged, heavy periods, as well as pain and pressure.
