In Rochelle, Illinois, employees work in a life-threatening environment at a Nippon Sharyo factory. While assembling railroad cars, workers are poisoned from chromium by using inadequate safety equipment. They have to wear the same masks for three days when they do not even last the whole shift. People are constantly injured from faulty scaffoldings, and there is not enough fall protection for workers on top of the cars. In places with flammable material, there is a lack of proper ventilation to remove the vapor (Fortino). It is dangerous for people to work in such conditions. With the integration of industrial robots, however, the number of employees put in an unsafe situation will greatly drop. Even though the usage of industrial robots …show more content…

For instance, the Odense Steel Shipyard stated that the speed and quality of the welding job went up by a factor of six after investing in a robotic system (“Robots Create Jobs). With the help of automation, the company was able to assemble more superior products in a shorter amount of time. In addition, a report on the future of robotics predicts that by 2025, the integration of robots in factories will “boost productivity by up to 30%” (The Boston Consulting Group). This means that adopting robots will raise the output per worker. As a result, the increase in output will lower prices and help companies survive in this competitive …show more content…

For instance, Baxter, the newer robot known for its many benefits, comes at the cost of accuracy and speed (Farshchi). By having better qualities in one area will nearly always come at the expense of another. Additionally, most robots are difficult to program and are not capable of being fully operational in a few days time (Farshchi). This is a major disadvantage for manufacturers that need their equipment to be perfect after a few days or even hours. With so many qualities that need to be fixed, industrial robots are far from being flawless, but developers are still working out the kinks that some with the
