Bright lights and cheerful colors are usually the first things that come to mind when you think of Christmas. Your mind can easily imagine the feel of the fluffy white snow as well as the crisp, fresh smell of peppermint in the air. This holiday is my favorite day of the year, for the joyous atmosphere it spreads all around. In America, Christmas is considered a significant event. Not only does it celebrate happiness and a time for being with family, but it also celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. As a result, my family and I take advantage of using this holiday as a way to spend memorable times with each other as well as celebrating the true meaning of Christmas. One of the things we do is go to Stone Mountain in Georgia. The place is beautifully transformed into a magical festival where they have parades, shows and lots of Christmas treats. Me and my family spend the whole day there, even staying to watch the nighttime light show. We also partake in a ministry project called Operation Christmas Child where we send necessities and toys to children in need in a decorated shoebox. We send about two boxes each year, making each one unique in their own way. I usually help by picking out the toys and help to decorate the shoeboxes. Another tradition that I often find the most fun is spending a night to drive around to look at decorated houses in different neighborhoods. We drink hot chocolate and warm ourselves by the fireplace as we sing along and watch the floats and performers. Once the parade is over we then play Christmas music as we sit near the Christmas tree to open presents while I take photos of everyone’s reactions. It’s a very special moment and a great way to experience the joy people have over the love you show them, and like my mother always told me, it’s the thought that counts. We then spend the rest of the day just bonding and having fun with laughter all in between. We sometimes even go on a walk to the movies and watch a movie we all never seen.
