In the beginning, she arrived late to the lottery because she forgot what day it was. “‘Thought my old man was out back stacking wood,’ Mrs. Hutchinson went on, ‘and then I looked out the window and the kids was gone, and then I remembered it was the twenty-seventh and came a-running’” (Jackson 375). I think this is the foreshadowing that she is stoned to death at the end. She may know that she would be the person, who draws the paper with the black dot. Moreover, all the acts of Tessie challenge the sanctity of the lottery. The ritual is a long time tradition of the village, so Tessie challenges it that means she challenges the village.
