1068 Words3 Pages

People often ask me why am I a democrat and who has influenced me on the political beliefs I have today. My answer is always my family. I grew up in a home with elders who support the Democratic Party. I have had great teachers in my life who have influenced me also to read and learn more about politics. Because of this I am able to create my own opinions and politically think about certain issues that are going on. My mother and father have been a phenomenal influence on my upbringing when it comes to politics. This has all started from the communication we have as a family. When I started my history classes, I would come home and talk about the previous conversations on the election at the time or any trending political topic. Our discussions would always educate me on what the topic may be. For instance, when I was fourteen I didn’t know too much about being a part of a political party. My parents taught me that choosing a party is important. Both parties have opposing views on society’s military, government, money, individualism, and equality beliefs in America. I started building my own views about our government and whether I was Democrat or Republican. As a young adult, I’ve learned so much about our government and what it means to be a citizen. To my father, being a true citizen was more than being legally recognized in America; it is participating in the voting of an election, being a part of local peer groups, and supporting a campaign. My Dad is a stickler on knowing your rights as a United States citizens. I wrote a paper as to why the 13th and 19th amendment was so important, how it changed the equality and freed African Americans from Slavery, and gave women the right to register to vote. This has been a way f... ... middle of paper ... ...eed to realize is that these people are coming over here for a better life. America has a created a life for people that need the support and help. Today I stand as a Democratic supporter and an American citizen that admires my President. I feel that Obama has done good things for our country in his presidency. His decisions were very effective in a positive way for our country. I stand my ground when it comes to the constitutional rights for illegal immigrants. Although people argue that immigrants come to America to take away job opportunities from American citizens, I had to strongly disagree. My parents and teacher, Mr. Martin, have really educated me on why we should create individual opinions and beliefs. With my political class now, I am still growing as a political thinker. I am now realizing the importance behind my influences, now that I am of legal age.
