In the epic poem ¨Beowulf¨ we are introduced to the hero, Beowulf, and to his monstrous opponents, Grendel, Grendel´s mother, and a dragon. All of them are represented as something not human, in appereance and mind, but what if the so called ¨monsters¨ are more human than monster. The poet gives us hints for that reasoning in every part where they are refered to, but because the idea of a monster is something that does not resemble a human in any way, is hard to think a monster has any likeness that familiarize it to humans. Grendel is the first opponent Beowulf faces, and is the most human of the three. As a descendant of Cain, Grendel was condemned to exile, and he did not enjoy it ¨he had dwelt for a time in misery among the banished monsters¨(104-105),
