My question was “How was the skateboard invented and how has it changed over the years?”. First of all I started thinking what topics could help me to answer this question, so after thinking for a while I finally came to 3 topics that could help me answer the question with a complete background of facts and ideas, and this is what I found:

• History of Skateboards
In 1950, surfers in California got the idea to surf in concrete and that’s practically how skateboarding was created. But it wasn’t until 1963 that skateboarding started to gain popularity, the sport was at its peak ,but suddenly in 1965 skateboarding simply die, some of the reasons of this sudden loss of popularity was that the sport was extremely dangerous, the boards used …show more content…

Today skateboarding is still popular to the point video games of this sport are created , and the fact that professional skateboards make a good amount of money gets the attention of many people.

• Equipment Changes
The skateboard has changed over the years to accommodate the growth of the sport. At first small manufacturers began producing a limited amount of skateboards referred as “sidewalk surf boards”. These boards were narrow, only 6 or 7 inches wide with clay wheels.
In 1971 Richard Stevenson invented the kicktail on a skateboard deck, this provided a higher level of control over the boards. Over time, the skateboard deck widened to 9 inches or more.
During the 1980s manufacture responded with improved decks featuring custom-designed artwork. New trucks, bearings and wheels were made to exact specifications suitable to riding and performing tricks.
The acceptance of skateboarding into the mainstream sporting community continues to increase, influencing manufacturers to produce faster, more maneuverable and durable skateboards. Decks have become thinner, narrower, concave and more flexible with upturns on both
