When I was younger, I did not put much thought into how my life would unfold when I was an adult. Then, when I was fifteen, I had a research paper that changed me on a deep level by researching positive ideas that helped improve the quality of my life. I gained a new perspective on the values and plans I held for my future. I want to share with you how my life has turned out through applying those concepts. After high school, when I went to college, the transition from being dependent on my parents to completely self-sufficient was extremely tough for me. The house is gorgeous, but the drive to and from the mainland is awful, especially on holidays. The worst challenge, however, hit the Keys a couple years ago: Hurricane John. The hurricane was devastating, and it leveled our house. However, I was able to salvage a majority of my family’s personal belongings. I followed a government guide that I had read about hurricane safety. They had a priority system called the Five P’s: People, Prescriptions, Papers, Personal Need, and Priceless Items ("How To Prepare for a Hurricane"). We were able to store everything in a safe place before the hurricane hit, but still had to evacuate to a nearby shelter for safety. After the hurricane left, the general area was in ruins. It took weeks to clean. However, during that period, I was still able to make my family and other people warm and delicious food by cooking on an outdoor charcoal grill ("How To Prepare for a Hurricane"). My family helped people trapped in debris("How To Prepare for a Hurricane"). My wife was also able to help those with signs of depression due to the event; such trauma can have a big impact on someone’s life ("How To Prepare for a Hurricane"). It affected mine.
