Edgar Allan Poe once wrote “ He bore aloft a drawn dagger, and had approached, in rapid impetuosity, to within three or four feet of the retreating figure.” “The Masque of The Red Death,” was about a Prince who invited his thousand friends to a masked ball. It had seven chambers and each of the chambers had a different theme. But the seventh chamber was very different from the rest of them. This room was all about death and everytime the clock rings everyone stops. In “The Masque of the Red Death,” Poe includes Gothic Horror characteristics to prove there was no escape from death. Dark chamber or castles was often used in gothic horror writing. In Poe’s story he uses characteristics that lead to death or the escape of it. When the narrator was explaining the seven chambers one by one, he spent more time on the seventh one more than the rest. The seventh chamber was more about death and people were more scared to walk towards it, they stayed more away from it. In Poe’s story he uses many characteristics of supernatural or paranormal. When Prince Prospero was in the ballroom he didn’t notices the figure until everyone became quiet.Prince Prospero was frightened when, “It was then, however, that the Prince Prospero, maddening with rage and the shame of his own momentary cowardice, rushed hurriedly through the six chambers, while none followed him...”(Poe 6). Prince Prospero then noticed the figure when he turned around and saw what everyone was staring at. He was then running from the figure threw the rooms.
