World War I was a battle that forever changed society. This battle was said to be one of the worst in history. It was centralized in Europe and lasted for about four years. Initially, the U.S. did not want to get involved in this war but the Germans performed submarine attacks on the U.S. After this attack, President Woodrow Wilson demanded war. In 1914, with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife from Austro-Hungarian Empire caused an enormous war called World War I, that killed and injured about thirty million lives. It also destroyed the economy later on. World War I changed combat tactics in a whole new way, where people would die in a blink of an eye. Commanders and soldiers did not know about the capabilities of their new arsenals. The new industrialized developed weapons devastated the battlefield with blood, mountain of corpses, and small craters. Some of the weapons that were used were machine guns, poison gas, mortars, and tanks. Soldiers described the battlefield as a nightmare. This was the start of a new era arising through warfare. A very dangerous way to bring great change to the world but was not intended. World War I brought great changes to the world but, considering the countless deaths, it was the worst war ever, an inhumane war.
As the American economy was gradually recovering thanks to the New Deal, Roosevelt decided to increase interaction with neighboring countries. When the Second World War began, Roosevelt saw it as an opportunity to increase production and boost America’s economy. During the 1930 to 1940s, the production of munitions greatly increased. The Second World War significantly increased American economic interaction with South America, Great Britain, and Canada. This lead to greater relations between Latin America and a faster victory as U.S. citizens began to see a shift in economic, political, and social ideals.

Prior to the United States entering the war, the major problem in America was the Great Depression. The society could not support a long war. The First World War left no aspect of European civilization untouched as pre-war governments were transformed to fight total war. The war metamorphed Europe socially, politically, economically, and intellectually. European countries channeled all of their resources into total war, which resulted in enormous social change. The result of working together for a common goal seemed to be unifying European societies.
World War 1 was a war that was filled with death and massacre all around. World War 1 has been labelled as the Great War due to it's absolute destruction and chaos. Countries such as Germany, Austria Hungary, Britain, France and others all took part in this war that started in 1914 and ended in 1918. There is widespread wonder on what started the war and caused it to go on as long as it did.
World War I, also referred to as the Great War, was global conflict among the greatest Western powers and beyond. From 1914-1918, this turf war swept across rivaling nations, intensifying oppositions and battling until victory was declared. World War I was a massive war that overwhelmed Europe and spread across the world. There were many causes of this war, one being nationalism. Nationalism is the belief that people should be loyal to their nation and in the 1900’s, there was a rivalry between Germany, Austria-Hungary, Great Britain, Russia, Italy, and France. They were competing not only for materials but also for territorial disputes. France wanted revenge on Germany after losing the Franco-Prussian War and losing some of their provinces. Finally, after the Archduke Francis Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian throne, and his wife were killed by a member of a radical Slovic nationalist group, World War I broke out.
The federal government issued thousands of contracts to make war goods. The largest beneficiaries of the government's largesse were the existing large corporations. "The big got bigger," Norton tells us, and the government "guaranteed profits in the form of cost-plus-fixed fee contracts, generous tax write-offs, and exemption from antitrust prosecution." Large universities received research contracts. Farming came to be dominated by "large-scale mechanized companies and farm co-ops" rather than family farms. The war "accelerated" this trend because "wealthy institutions were better able… to pay for expensive new machinery" (Norton 524 and 525).
