Many things make America what it is today, from Government, to culture. We as a society come from many different places, and countries. Greece and Rome have influenced America in many ways, and has shaped our government and culture. In World Studies, we are learning about a Republic, and other forms of democracy. A republic is a government in which citizens elect representatives to rule on their behalf. Greece, a country in Europe, and Rome has made platforms for democracy, and started some of the first running governments. They provided culture, and ideas that still share an importance today. Greece and Rome has contributed to the United States Government, athletic, and medicinal practices. Greece and Rome has contributed greatly to The U.S. government, providing the concept of democracy as a whole. In ancient Rome men can “vote for people to represent them” and the voted people became the “senate” (Document 5). Having a democracy run this way made it convenient and made sure everyone had a say, even in a large area. Ruling such a large area made it harder to stay on the same track, which is why the Romans also created “a code of laws” (Document 6). This shows in our government today …show more content…

People come from around the world come together to join in the olympic games, in ancient Greece they had many competitions such as “running, boxing, and wrestling” still showing today as popular sports (Document 2). In ancient Greece the winner received many prizes, and recognition for example, riches and valuable items similar to today.
