In Sean Penn’s movie and Jon Krakauer’s movie, “Into the Wild” the viewers see Chris McCandless a young man who was on the road to graduate from Emory University , go into the wild because he wanted to have a different experience. Chris McCandless did have several reasons to go into the wilderness. Shaun Callarman states that McCandless had no reason to go into the Alaskan Wilderness and I disagree with this statement. But people have different opinions about McCandless going into the wilderness.In the movie, McCandless had an abusive family, he wanted to connect with nature and he wasn’t happy with his situation. So these are several reasons of why he went into the wilderness. Chris McCandless has a family that has a lot of problems, he wanted to connect with nature and he didn’t want to be part of society. Callarman states that McCandless was ignorant, he may have been ignorant but he had his reasons. Second, he wanted to connect with nature and he wanted to rediscover himself. McCandless couldn’t find himself when he was part of society, so his journey into the wild helped him discover himself. McCandless took a big risk when deciding to go into the wild , but in the film, McCandless seems to have a great adventure in the wild. As the viewers, we are able to see McCandless rediscover himself when he changed his named to Alexander Supertramp. This proves that McCandless couldn’t find himself when he was part of society. When the film first starts, McCandless doesn’t seem as a risky person but when he went into the wild, McCandless took many risk showing that he found his true identity in the wild.
