What is courage? Courage is the ability to do something that scares you. One of the ways to becoming courageous is not being afraid. You might have feared something or were scared of doing something. Sometimes the way to specifically overcome fear is by being brave and taking a risk. For example, if you want to give a speech in front of an audience and you have stage fright you have to generally forget about the audience and the stage fright. You have to take the risk, you have to just forget about everything and everyone, and present your speech. Overcoming Your Fears One of the main reasons that stop you from being courageous is fear. Try not to fear something you’re scared of, try to overcome that fear. For example, if you were filled with adrenaline and tried to do a backflip and surprisingly land on your feet. Don’t think pessimistic and think of all the bad things that could happen if you were to do it again. Don’t think that you could hurt your back or break your neck. Harriet Tubman was a courageous woman. She was one of the first to be brave enough to escape the slave plantation and come back to help and rescue other slaves. You could be as courageous as her. If someone is in trouble or is in danger, rescue them, even if you don’t have to. Don't be a coward, go out on a limb, think positive, and be brave. Last but not least stand up for what’s right. When Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. one of the most influential leaders of the Civil Rights Movement stood up for what he believed in. He didn’t think that the segregation laws were fair.
