Hiroshima Argumentative Essay

The world cried and wept for an end to World War II. All of the endless slaughter, fighting, and violence needed to stop. With one last nation, not standing, on its knees was struggling to continue the war. This nation was Japan. The people of Japan were suffering the burden of having a communist government and they were waiting for an end for World War II also. The United States had just that, an ending for World War Two. This ending came in the form of a 9,700 pound bomb called “Little Boy”. This Atomic Bomb was dropped upon the people of Hiroshima on the day of August 6, 1945 at exactly 8:15am, a Monday. It has been argued that we should or shouldn't have dropped the bomb on Hiroshima due to the after effects of the bomb. But I believe that dropping the Atomic Bomb had more benefits rather than the outcomes that would have occurred if we hadn't. To begin with, if we invaded Japan it would have caused way more death than what has already been done. A rough estimate within the first thirty of an invasion is 31,000+ deaths (Barnes 1). Other studies show that this amount has the potential due to kamikaze attacks and heavy anti-air by the Japanese (Barnes 1). If we managed to put troops on the ground from the air we would have to face another issue which would be firepower. The heavily dug in Japanese would unleash so much resistance towards us, kamikaze attacks only prove this. The Japanese were willing to die for there country. In no way was Japan willing to go down to their inevitable defeat without a fight. Another reason that supports why we shouldn't invade is that we have already invaded other islands owned by the Japanese and that exhausted our soldiers. This isn't including the horrendous invasion of Normandy which had a... ... middle of paper ... ...tive. You cannot have war without sacrifices and using an Atomic Bomb proves it. Dropping the bomb was the only option with the least amount backfire that would occur. This decision was like a double edged sword and dropping the bomb on civilians was the sacrifice that we made. The bomb did save lives in the end, not having to have more war and just simply to end it was why chose to end the war that way. Although we had to drop the bomb, the lives of the people that were taken by the bomb were not in vain. Continuation of the war was only going to cause twice as more of death than what the bomb had done. Sometimes you need to go to a certain extent to have something accomplished especially in war. Whether it be to kill innocents by a bomb or having to tear families apart by sending their loved ones overseas those are the consequences of war, those are sacrifices.
