“Life is either a great adventure, or nothing.” This quote by Helen Keller essentially sums up her life. She was faced with many obstacles, but she chose to overcome them. She chose to make her life an adventure when she could have used her issues as an excuse. This strong-willed woman influenced the lives of all types of people. Helen wrote books, gave lectures, and was a role model for many people. There was an enormous diversity in the types of people Helen influenced, and I think that is very significant.

She had a major impact. In 1946, Helen became counselor of international relations for the American Foundation of Overseas Blind. She went to 35 countries and a five month journey across Asia to make speeches. This gave people hope and it inspired them. Helen dedicated most of her life to working towards helping others. She was praised by the press, until she shared her socialist views. They began to criticize and belittle her, but she did not care. This taught others that they shouldn’t care either.
I chose Helen Keller because she was influential, but not many people realize how many things she actually accomplished. She sort of reminds me of my mom in a way, because my mom is half deaf and she graduated from college. She went through the paperwork and everything to get into college on her own with no help from her parents or anything. I find it interesting that people like Helen and my mom can have setbacks and they still are determined to reach a goal, when some people don’t have that obstacle and they still don’t challenge themselves to reach a goal.
