The night was cold and wet, and there was a glowing rim of light surrounding the house. Through the window you could see the fire burning and the White’s sitting in the parlor. Mr. White and Herbert sat playing an intense game of chess. Mrs. White sat in her chair knitting, while Vera sat on the couch with her nose stuck in a book. Vera loved to read and her father gave her this book from his last work trip to India. He bought it from an old fakir who when Mr White bought it said, the it was a book that showed that destiny was inevitable and those who tamper with destiny will suffer. The newsman struggled to say the opening statement, and was replaced by a handicapped man who continued to say the news. As he spoke that words “Harrison Bergeron Escaped Caution Call H-G if seen” flashed across the bottom the screen and a picture of Harrison was displayed. The news man told the viewers of the escape of the dangerous and highly advantaged individual, informing everyone that the H-G was dealing with the situation, telling everyone not to be scared, but to take high caution. The news was then finished and the station returned to its original program. The ballerinas danced all at the same level and most of them wore handicaps to promote equality. Some even wearing masks if their beauty would cause envy or insecurity. As the performance went on there was an odd sound in the background like the sound of chains falling. As the sound got closer the music followed becoming loud and dark until the music was so loud and the strange sound was outside the theatre doors. At that second the doors flung open and Harrison Bergeron could be seen with his handicaps broken and falling to the ground. He walked down the hall and to the stage until he was standing in the center with the spotlight shining on his body. The audience sat silent in terror and shock looking at Harrison as if he was a mighty storm. Harrison then spoke loud and with his mighty voice said “I am the Emperor!!” as he spoke the words sounded like thunder on a silent night. He then turned look to the pile of terrified ballerinas sitting on stage left, and requested for an empress. A ballerina wearing a mask and the most handicaps stood and walked gracefully to where Harrison stood.
