Romeo and Juliet was a story written by William Shakesphere many years ago. The story takes place in Verona. There are two households, Capulet and Montague, which are enemies. Then comes Romeo and Juliet. Romeo coming from Montague and Juliet coming from Capulet. Romeo and Juliet are star-crossed lovers and end up in love. Obviously, it does not end out well because said before, their families are enemies. There are lots of different opinions on who bears the most guilt for the fate of Romeo and Juliet in this story; however, it is clear to say that Friar Laurence has the most guilt for the fate.
Friar Laurence bears the guilt of Romeo and Juliet's fate for many reasons. "In one respect I'll thy assistant be; For this alliance may so happy …show more content…

"O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I'll no longer be a Capulet." (11.1.33-36 ). This would make Juliet feel guilty because she is disobeying her own family. She loves Romeo so much that she would rather betray her own family for him. Even though she is betraying her family, does not mean it does not make her not feel guilty. However, Friar Laurence still bears the most guilt. "A thing like death to chide away this shame, That copest with death himself to scapre from it: And, if thou darest, I'll give thee remedy" (IV.1. 74-76) With Laurence saying this, he is saying that he knows the solution for Juliet to stop her heart for 24 hours. Juliet agrees to take the potion but before she does, she writes Romeo a letter explaining what is happening. Laurence was suppose to give the letter to Romeo, however; he did not. Romeo heard around that Juliet died, so he returned. He saw Juliet laying on the bed thinking she was dead, so he ended up killing himself. When Juliet woke back up, she ended up killing herself too. This was all because Laurence did not deliever the letter to Romeo. Surely, Laurence fills sorrow and feels like the weight of the world is on his shoulder and he is at fault at everything for this
