Greek culture has strongly influenced the modern world today. This culture has left behind many ideas, concepts, and different aspects of art. Greek city-states taught us that we can trade across large bodies of water, so many of our bigger cities form near the oceans. The first democracy to form was in the Greek city-state Athens. Today we see many problems with the democracy system, many of which Athens also encountered. Art and architecture from ancient Greece has also remained extremely influential to the modern world. In today’s society we rely on different ideas from Greek city-states, encounter the same problems in democracies like the Apology, and create buildings similar to the architecture from the Parthenon.

In today’s world we still trade over large bodies of water. Many larger cities have formed near water because it is a major resource. In addition, like Athens, the U.S.The formed on a democracy and they’re still developing all around the world. Unfortunately democracies aren’t perfect. They continue to face similar problems that they did in ancient Athens. For example, the U.S. government is about $19 trillion in debt. In order to overcome this, it is estimated that each American would have to pay $58,000. The U.S. has an election every four years that will determine who will govern them for that term. United States citizens cast votes to determine who will govern over the society. The U.S. seems to focus more on the Athens intellectual field. Although he tried to persuade the majority they had already made up their decision primarily on emotion. Many issues in today’s world pass because of the majority’s emotions. The majority, lawmakers, do not push their emotions aside and think about the actual problem. Another problem today’s democracy is that even though “we” the people have power; many citizens are not well-informed on important issues. For example, most people that voted in the presidential elections were not well-informed on what the candidate wanted to accomplish. I know this because there has been a lot of gossip about Kanye West running for president in 2020. This could end up being really bad because many of the younger generation will take it as a joke and vote for him. Although I doubt this will truly happen, there is always a chance that anything can happen in today’s
