Good afternoon Sophia, how are you? I really enjoyed your post, and the important points that you made. I found Ed's story to be very inspirational because despite of all the things that he went through; he still went on to be successful. I also know that it must've been hard for Ed to not be affiliated with his heritage while growing up due to the negative stereotypes that Native Americans received. The negative stereotypes that are placed on Native Americans are alcoholics, criminals, violent, and etc. Ed also stated in the video that when dealing with being discriminated against due to his skin complexion, he grew up with self esteem issues and guilt. As person of color myself, I know that dealing with any type of racism or discrimination
Jonathan Mendoza “Brown Boy, White Boy”, really did speak me, no I am not biracial but I was able to understand in a nutshell of what they go through. In a world that is divided by blacks and whites where should they fit in? From the outside looking in, I always thought that mixed kids had the best of both worlds, they the nice hair and skins, they could pass for white and have great opportunities and could kick it in the hood. But after listening to Jonathan I’ve learned that it is not all that simple. They go through so much trying to figure out who they are, trying to identify with what history is theirs. Native Americans have been living on American soil for quite a while now. They were here before the European colonists. They have been here and still continue to be present in the United States. However, the way the media represents Native Americans disallows the truth about Native Americans to be told. Only misinterpretations of Native Americans seem to prosper in the media. It appears the caricature of Native Americans remains the same as first seen from the first settler’s eyes: savage-like people. Their culture and identity has become marginalized by popular culture. This is most evident in mainstream media. There exists a dearth of Native American presence in the mainstream media. There is a lack of Native American characters in different media mediums. When they are represented, they are misrepresented. They are easily one of the most underrepresented cultures and people in American media. Native Americans shouldn’t be confined to a stereotype, should have a greater presence in the media, and shouldn’t be misrepresented when they are presented.

Throughout ancient history, many indigenous tribes and cultures have shown a common trait of being hunter/gatherer societies, relying solely on what nature had to offer. The geographical location influenced all aspects of tribal life including, spirituality, healing philosophy and healing practices. Despite vast differences in the geographical location, reports show various similarities relating to the spirituality, healing philosophy and healing practices of indigenous tribal cultures.
Lessons in life are constantly learned in many ways. The things each individuals need to learn and give light towards are things they are doing to adapt within society. Due to the way that our society is always showing signs of changes, individuals need to figure out learn to identify and acknowledge diversity. By hearing Feezeela Raza in class shared her thoughts and experiences on diversity , I tend to picked up valuable insight into diversity , how they are being treated and also how to completely acknowledge all people dealing with diversity issues , in all situations.
Obama displayed his patriotism throughout the entirety of his speech. His noteworthy loyalty to this country became apparent to me within his first few remarks. He spoke of the Founding Fathers with pride that could only come from deep within and acknowledged how far we have come as a country. This progress Obama spoke of had nothing to do with wealth or world standing. The progress Obama was referring to involved our country’s morality. The goal the United States is striving to reach is written in that 221 year old— now 230 year old—document. The goal was equality for all. I personal interview with Mark White, a resident who has lived in MRNC for over 3 years in room 39B. When looking at him he has blue eyes that match his hospital gown that he wears to bed. Mr. White is 5’7 and is very alert. When one see Mr. White in his bed one will notice the remote and call light rap about his neck. This individual feels very comfortable knowing it is so close to him. Mr. White will shout out “HELP” if something is wrong and if he needs something. He calls himself the guinea pig when it comes to students practicing their skills. He likes to watch the news and be up to date on what's going around the world. People who spoke languages they had never heard and had different lifestyles that the Europeans had never seen. Today we call those people American Indians. Although some European settlers were friendly with Native Americans, others were not and conflicts between them increased. Also, permanent European settlements in America eventually led to disease. Europeans also placed greater demands upon the native populations, including expecting them to convert to other religions. European settlers had overwhelmingly negative consequences for Native Americans.

Some of them prefer the white skin color because they think whites are nice and good looking compared to blacks that are ugly. On the other hand, some kids say that skin color is not important, what matters is the personality or inside. They add that there is no difference between blacks and whites because they are same people. In this video, it show their perspectives about the topic of skin color and it also affects their point of view, such as hearing from adults’ perspective.
