Another Example of ‘Golden Age’ – The Golden Age of Comics Another example of golden age era will be the comics. The existence of this comics is at the end of the end of the 19th century. It regains its popularity after the depression when newspaper cartoon expanded into a major industry.
The specific era of this golden age is disputed, however most agreed that it begins in 1938 when the Superman debuted in that year. Superman comic book was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and is possibly the most recognisable comic book character until today. With the success and overwhelming respond from the reader of this Superman character, spawned series of spin-offs and the creation of a whole new genre of characters superhero with secret identities, superhuman power colourful outfits such as Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman, Plastic Man, Green Lantern and Flash. Apart from that, science fiction and Western-themed comics were some of the new styles of story-telling that started to surface. The teen genre was also gaining attention during that time. There was also an animal and jungle themed comics steered by Walt Disney featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Tarzan were introduced. However, after the World War 2 the superhero genre tend to lose its steam, interest and popularity which marks what many consider to be the end of the Golden Age. Even until today, which is almost 70 years later, many characters remains popular and left an indelible mark on the comic books.
