Grace Wesley is played by Melissa Hart as a public high school history teacher. She is a catholic that helps support Brooke Thawley, played Hayley Orrantia, after her brother's death. Tom Endler, played by Jesse Metcalfe, is Grace's defense attorney against Brooke's parents and their attorney Pete Kane, played by Ray Wise. Fr. David, Rev. Jude, Martin Yip, and Amy Ryan return from the original movie. Fr. David becomes one of the jurors to Grace's case and Amy Ryan is told that she is rid of her cancer in the beginning of the movie. Brooke's parents don't have a very large role in the movie, but are atheists raising their children by their beliefs. This is the reason Brooke talked to Ms. Wesley. God's Not Dead 2 opens with brief moments in each of the main characters' lives, including Fr. David's bad day. Brooke's brother died recently and her parents don't give her enough time to mourn, saying, "I just needed five more minutes with him." Grace lives with her grandfather and openly expresses her faith with him. Outside of school, Brooke asks Grace why she always is composed and happy, to which she replied, "Jesus." Brooke finds her brother's hidden bible and reads the notes he has written in. There is struggle in life where we may question God's existence. There are times when people will twist our words and actions. News coverage always said that Grace Wesley was proselytizing in her class, or trying to promote Catholicism. Only Amy Ryan covers in her blog that Jesus was a historical figure. The media has a great impact on us and what we think. God's Not Dead 2 teaches to stay strong in your faith regardless of what others say.
