George And Lennie's Relationship

The theme of friendship is explored throughout the novel “Of Mice and Men.” George and Lennie have been traveling together to every job they had. George and Lennie have something that very few people of the time have, friendship. They have each other, and that's more than many migrant workers have, even today. On page 15, it says, “With us it ain’t like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to and give a damn about us.” They have each other, and that is all they really need. I think this is especially true with George and Lennie. As I said before, George and Lennie have each other. They travel together, work together, and when Lennie messes things up, George still sticks with him. On page 13, it says, “She yells and we got to hide in an irrigation ditch all day with guys lookin’ for us, and we got to sneak out in the dark and get outta the country.” Lennie had grabbed a girl’s dress because he wanted to feel it, and she tried to jerk away and he panicked. Everyone thought he had attacked her. That ruined a good setup they had in Weed, but George still stuck with him. That is true friendship. …show more content…

Physically is obvious, he is very strong and is a good worker. He gets a good workload in. Emotionally, Lennie is George’s only friend. He will always be there for him, even if he isn't very bright. On page 39, it says, “It ain’t so funny, him an’ me goin’ aroun’ together,” George said at last. “Him and me was both born in Auburn. I knowed his Aunt Clara. She took him when he was a baby and raised him up. When his Aunt Clara died, Lennie just come along with me out workin’. Got kinda used to each other after a little while.” He talked about how he would play jokes on Lennie and have fun with him. Him and Lennie have known each other for a long time and grew on each
