Syrian refugees are fleeing genocide in search of safe shores. The people of Syria are Muslims, full or partial Armenian descent, and other ethnicities who fled from wars and persecutions such as, the Armenian genocide, are also fleeing for their lives from the killings taking place in Syria. Millions of Syrian refugees are living in Jordan and Lebanon, because many families have been forced from their homes.
Thousands of innocent Syrians have been killed. This is one of the worst, departure of people since the Rwandan genocide in Africa, where thousands of innocent people each day,
The war in Syria has been going on for six years now, killing more than a quarter million people and forcing over 10 million people to leave their homes. It has started with a peaceful protest and is now a full on genocide of people dying. The protest was for the arrest and torturing of Syrian teens for the graffiti of their anti government on a wall. When people form other people that were tired of the government saw this, they wanted their president to make major reforms of their democracy. He didn't like that, so he responded with a violent reaction. He killed thousands of Syrians and more from starvation. As the war went on, more people came in to play a role in the war. These people were from many different places. It has gotten so bad that politicians don't know what to do to stop it.
Many still believe that all the hard times are behind them. Those people believe that since they aren’t the ones having to face those harsh times. However, evil still exists till this day, like the Genocide in Darfur. The subject about Darfur has always been a delicate one to many. However, there are still many in this society that still don’t even have the slightest clue about what is happening over in Sudan. There have been many genocides in the past, and the most well known is the Holocaust, but it’s sad to think that it still goes on till this day. Furthermore, there are still many that haven’t done much about it. Society needs to find out about what is happening in Darfur and awareness needs to be raised as well.
A genocide is currently taking place in Syria. In early 2011, the Syrian president Bashar
When we consider the fact that individuals within Syria were fighting for western ideals such as democracy in conjunction with the fact that they are facing obscenely high death tolls, as well as things such as chemical weapons, it turning our back on these individuals becomes unimaginable that the western world (Uri 1). Despite this being the case, many instead have chosen to turn their backs on these refugees even though the majority of these people have shown themselves to be entirely harmless. An influx of people from a muslim country does not inherently mean letting in terrorists, which we’ve seen to be true throughout history. In fact an individual intending to commit acts of
Syria is a country located in the middle-east, and is the main source of refugees that are spreading across the world today. I’ve done a lot of research over the past few weeks over the Syrian refugee crisis. I’ve found the Al-Assad family has led Syria for over 46 years. Hafiz Al-Assad led from 1971-2000, and then Bashar Al-Assad from 2000 to present day. I also discovered that in 2011 many neighboring Middle Eastern countries had revolutions, over throwing their ruthless dictatorships. The Assad’s during this time refused to step down from their place as rulers of Syria, thus creating a civil war.
The Rwandan genocide slid under the radar causing thousands of Tutsi to be slaughtered. To start, the term genocide will be defined, the origin will be explained, along with the eight generic stages. In Rwanda, the genocide inflicted immense division of the country and the world. The actions took by the Hutu classified these killings as a genocide, according the these following stages. The Rwandan Genocide didn’t come to a conclusion until the relief came to the Tutsi civilization. The Rwandan genocide which was initiated by the Hutu government, was because of the distrust of the Hutu towards the Tutsi, believing they were out setting a uprising to gain power over the Hutu.
“Everyone is just walking along concerned with his own problems, his own life, his own worries. And we're all expecting other people to tune into our own agenda. ‘Look at my worry. Worry with me. Step into my life. Care about my problems. Care about me,’”-Sharon Creech. Likewise to what Sharon Creech has stated, many country leaders and citizens pay more attention to their own agenda and self problems instead of worldwide dilemmas. In addition, the holocaust is one of the most disastrous and devastating predicaments that have struck the world in anguish and terror, however the people at that time ignored the huge quandary taking place in Central Europe. Factors such as social media, Isis, and the mixed motivations of “rescuers” today can
Since gaining its independence in 1956 from the United Kingdom and Egypt, Sudan has been a
As we said that the presence of number of institutions and famous political figures in the Bush Administration led Former President Bush and Collin Powel, Former Secretary of State openly to announce the condition in Darfur region to be genocide 9th June, 2004. Therefore activists emerged with the campaign of “Save Darfur” which was supported by the political figures, institutions, and celebrities who were demonstrated in Washington DC on 30th April, 2006 to show their feelings and attention for what was happening in Darfur region. In addition to that Bush administration continuously avowed that defending humanitarian assistance and ultimately brings back peace and stability in the region is the administration’s main concern, but at the same
Introduction Human rights are fundamental rights and freedoms that all people are entitled to regardless of nationality, gender, national or ethnic origin, religion, language, or other status. And these human rights violations are in some countries like Central African Republic, Syria, USA, Ireland, and etcetera. One example is Syria, where the people afraid live here. Therefore, article 3 of the Universal Human Rights Act is violated in Syria. This essay seeks to consider the human rights violations in Syria.
The conflict in Syria has raged for 3 years and a month now. This civil conflict began on the 15th of March 2011. The main actors in this conflict are the supporters of totalitarian Ba’ath government and those who overthrow it. At first the demands of the protesters were democratic and economic reforms to be brought in by the Ba’ath government. Although after the military assaults on protesters across the country the protests evolved into an armed rebellion. Thousands massacred- women children, homes leveled to the ground. According to the United Nations, the death toll surpassed 100,000 in June 2013, and reached 120,000 by September 2013. More than four million Syrians have been displaced, more than three million Syrians fled the country and became refugees, and millions more were left in poor living conditions with shortage of food and drinking water.
In the 21st century, the thought of genocide seems absurd. Genocide, a premeditated and systematic campaign to exterminate an entire people, today? Some people wouldn’t even be able to comprehend that in 2015 but prior to what people know there have been many genocides besides the infamous holocaust. The holodomor in 1933 when the Soviet Union starved over a million Ukraine and Kazakhstan citizens to death, Native Americans getting killed out of their land by Christopher Columbus, and the Haiti Massacre in 1804, where Jean-Jacques Dessalines led a massacre resulting in the deaths of up to 5,000 French Creoles of all ages and genders, trying to remove all Caucasians from Haiti, are all examples of genocides and attempted genocides but the
While Syrian refugees are often labeled as terrorists, they are actually the opposite. Through research, - Lauren Gambino, Patrick Kingsley, and Alberto Nardelli - three writers from an English Newspaper, “The Guardian”, have found interesting results. They admit, “Syrian refugees are generally afraid of exactly the same thing that Americans are: Islamist terrorism” (Gambino 3). Considering that the Syrians are seeking an escape from the same exact thing that Americans are, why have they not been accepted into America? Like many of the 70,000 refugees who are accepted into the United States every year, Syrian refugees search for shelter from wars and hope of a prosperous future (Welsh 1). Teresa Welsh, a writer for the “U.S. News and World Report”, describes in her article “Why the U.S. Can’t Resettle Syrian Refugees” that “the U.S. should be doing more to help resettle those fleeing conflict and repressive governments in the Middle East and Asia” (Welsh 1). The Syrians desire escape from a repressive government with no chance of rebuilding a better future; therefore, they seek support from outside countries, like the United States and other European
Countries surrounding Syrian, such as Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq have taken in the vast majority of Syrian refugees. In some countries, such as Lebanon, Syrian refugees make up over a quarter of the population. This causes extreme economic strain on a country, and can greatly increase the amount of poverty that is seen there. As refugees continue to flee their countries civil war, surrounding countries struggle to cope with the influx of new people into their country.
According to the statistics, “The Syrian Network For Human Rights (SNHR) reports the death tolls for 2017 in Syria. A total of 10,204 civilians have been killed including 2,298 children and 1,536 women.”
