Gender and racism are two of the main topics of “The Talk” by Dana Canedy and “What Goes Through Your Mind: On Nice Parties and Casual Racism” by Nicole Chung. Throughout their essays, Canedy and Chung prove whether it is an African-American boy or an Asian American woman, minorities face racism. Also, all types of racism such as casual racism or intended racism all are extremely hurtful, degrading to any minority. Gender has a lot to do with the severity of racism experienced. Police brutality on an African American woman happens, but is not as frequently and sever as it does to an African American man. In The Talk Canedy explains that she needs to teach her son how to act around the police. Things such as police brutality happen a lot more tech African American then it does to white people. A lot of white people tend to not understand the problems that African-American, Hispanics, Asians, and more go through on a daily basis. Learning from the Nicole Chung’s personal essay I was able to learn racism isn’t always clear. There are different forms of racism such as casual racism that people endorsed on an everyday basis that wait people might not even notice they are saying. This is just one great example of things that an African American man would need to learn that a white man wouldn’t. Not in all cases but frequently when you think of African-Americans you think of property. Although this is not a fair assumption this has a lot of the fact on life experiences. People with low social class and low income don’t forget to do things that people with high income get to do. This causes different races to have different life experiences. Another example can be college, certain races push college more heavily than others. That is because different races have different problems I need to come up with different solutions. Often white neighborhoods to not have as many drive-by shootings has an African-American neighborhood would. With that different races and outlooks on life might be different. Because a black man’s outlook on life is to make sure he stays alive and makes it home every night whereas the white men’s outlook might not even consider that. “when I asked why he would want to “pass’ for white, I struggled with how to respond to his answer.” (Canedy 884). As for white man the thought of someone wanting to be white happens within children. This is something that minorities have to deal with their children asking them. Minority outlooks on life they see it as so much easier to be white and not live in a world where they’re discriminated against. This is something that minorities probably often think of this is an outlook they have on the world.
