I intend to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Galileo was one of the greatest innovators of all time. Without his discoveries, the world would look at the universe differently than it does now. Galileo was born on February 15th, 1564, in Pisa, Italy. He moved to Florence in 1574, where he would start his education. He would attend Camaldolese Monastery, where he wanted to become a monk. His father wanted him to be a doctor, so the idea of being a monk was turned down. In 1583, Galileo went to the University of Pisa to study medicine. He didn’t like medicine, but he did enjoy math and physics. After going to a Geometry lecture, Galileo decided to dedicate himself to math. He would soon have to leave the university, without a degree, because of money. He gave public lectures, and took part in public discussions. He would also go on to discover the nature of a pendulum, and make a hydrostatic balance. His lectures were earning him fame, and he was invited to speak at the Florentine Academy. His lecture was successful and he was asked to come back. Galileo’s fame was growing as a brilliant mathematician. He wrote several articles, and one of them ended up in the hands of another mathematician. His name was Guidobaldo Del Monte, and he helped Galileo get a job at the University of Pisa. When he arrived, he was expected to give lessons on the ideas of Aristotle, that the Earth was the center of the universe. He was also expected to wear a toga, the traditional garment of the Greeks. He thought of that as a nuisance, particularly during experiments. This caused him to get fined more than he got paid. He would continue to study the world, trying to disprove the ideas of Aristotle. He believed the Copernic... ... middle of paper ... ... to Rome. Nothing happened, and the pope believed as long as he didn't teach the idea, that his religion was safe. After returning from Rome, Galileo decided to write a book about the ideas. He took it to Rome, where it would get approved by the church. Again, his book sold out quickly. After the pope was pressured by the people, Galileo was again put on trial. After a long trial process, he would be imprisoned in his home. He would go on to invent the pendulum clock while imprisoned at home. On January 8, 1642, at the age of 78, Galileo would die. Galileo made the world change its view on the universe. Without him, the world possibly couldn't have accomplished some of the things it has done in space. Galileo also made us test things instead of just hypothesizing. So every time you go to science class and do an experiment or learn about space, thank Galileo.
