Every fall at Marian, freshman elections take place and arouse a great amount of excitement throughout the school, this year was no different. Mrs. Mary Steiner, Student Services Office Manager, and Ms. Jessica Abel, math tutor and basketball coach, are the Student Board Moderators. Student Board organizes many of the schoolwide events at Marian, including freshman elections. On Nov. 17, 6 Class Officers and 3 Student Board members were announced to lead the class of 2021. In order to achieve the position of a Class Officer or Student Board Member, the candidates had to first sign up, and then create an election poster to hang in the freshman locker areas. 14. Each candidate was given 30-40 seconds to respond to the question of their choice. Student in the class of 2021 were then able to vote online for the candidates of their choice. Once voting closed, the results were tallied and all of candidates received an email stating whether they had been elected or not. Class Officers consist of a group of students that is elected within the class in order to serve all of the needs of their class. Class Officers are responsible for class activities, meetings and any other class projects such as Field Day. The main goal of class officers is to promote unity within the class. The six Class Officers for the class of 2021 are Carmie Bazis, Callie Cavanaugh, Katie Corpuz, Emma Gunn, Liza Heim, and Lexington Olsen. These freshman Class Officers are moderated by Mrs. Brock. Student Board is also elected by their class. Student Board members’ goal is to unify both the students and the faculty. The members work to unify the entire school by playing an active role in the activities and programs. All of the clubs at Marian are moderated and approved by Student Board. The three Student Board Members from the class of 2021 are Kori Bullard, Quinn Findley, and Amelia Zimmerman. Student Board is moderated by Mrs. Steiner and Ms.
Morgan has made some great t-shirts this year! I know she and I worked close together to make sisterhood and thanksgiving shirts and I really like to see the person who takes over the position next semester really do the same because I think teamwork really helps with trying to please everyone.
In this essay, I will explain why Texas should retain the partisan election of judges. Texas is one of the few states that elect their judges using a Partisan voting method. Partisan elections can be unfair and can misinform the voter. A high legal position such as a judge should never be chosen in such a manner. Partisan elections often cost more than nonpartisan elections in campaigning. Partisan elections are also more likely to lead to straight ticket voting or mindless voting. Partisan elections also lead to more campaign contributions and can increase the power of constituencies. Lastly partisan elections can cause an imbalance in equal represent the population. In the United States we are all guaranteed one vote per person. Everyone has an equal voice in electing the people that serve in the government. Every four years during the month of November citizens of America go to the polls to vote for a president and vice-president of the United States. Am I right? Not really. They actually vote for electors that then vote for our president. It makes me wonder, "Are we a democracy?" Having the Electoral College defeats its purpose. I oppose the electoral college for these three reasons, in election 2000 the president that lost the popular vote actually won, everyone's vote doesn't really count, plus the electoral college has disrupted elections fifteen times!

The American political system has been actively changing since over a century before the United States was founded and will more than likely continue to evolve in our present day and future. The changes of our political system can be due to multiple reasons including fear of establishing a tyrant state, such as Great Britain in the 17th and 18th century, the failure of the Articles of Confederation, the economic state of the Nation and several key historical persona with great ideologies that have molded not only politics but our Nation as a whole.

For example, Isidewith.com is an online website that asks the participant various question about concerning issues in politics such as, abortion, , environmental, economic, and domestic policy issues. I feel like Public School #23 has a character of its own. In fact it's like a tree, it has roots of strong administrators who make sure we stay grounded. It has a strong trunk of teachers who wish to support us in whatever we decide to do. We have wonderful subjects the branches that make us interested and fill our brains with knowledge and we the students are the leaves. As freshman we start to bud, as sophomores we begin to get full shape and color, as juniors we begin are full shape and size and by senior year we are tired and wish to leave the tree and adventure the world. Many people have become aware of the fact that the number of voters had reached its all time low. But as the newest voting season comes closer, we should still have a voice and the freedom to decide what we do. Which is, take a step against making America a compulsory voting country, because it proves unnecessary and there are other alternatives than mandatory voting.
