When I finished reading the excerpt about the life of Frederick Douglass, I learned more about the roughness and hardships of his life and story. Throughout the excerpt, Douglass passionately expressed his thoughts and feelings about slavery. When times were tough, Douglass wished to be an animal, which made thinking unnecessary. When Douglass was taken from his home, he became very frustrated. Moreover, Douglass did not truly comprehend why someone would do this to an innocent person. When Frederick Douglass was a young boy, he was forced to move in with his first master’s relative, Hugh Auld. He began learning how to read through sessions with Auld’s wife. However, this came to a halt when Auld stated it would make Douglass too intelligent
