Jamal got a dare to raid a man’s apartment, faced with the conflict of raiding a mystery man’s house he decided to go up and do it. This lead to the best decision of his life since in the apartment he meets William Forrester. Who would transform him into a great author and affect him forever. Stephen Holden states that(Holden S. 3) “A hotshot on the court sneaks into Forresters apartment and surprises the author, who scares him off with a roar,” this becomes important due to the fact that this created the relationship that will be needed. Now that they can help each other, one being with writing and the other with getting out into the world. This meant a great deal since Jamal can now focus on his writing and show more of himself. This relates since he needed someone to show him the way of writing and William became the pathway to success in writing. Jamal had a gift in basketball and helped his team get to the state championship, where the game became extremely close. Then after the game ended, he had two free throws to win or lose, where he decided to miss to prove that he can do more than basketball, that he has exceptional writing abilities as well. Which showed others him transforming from a basketball star to him becoming an author which surprised everyone else. (Paul C. pg2) “The only fellow student who reaches out is Clair.” This means that people wouldn’t get near him since he had his differences from the students surrounding him, and only Clair took the time to get close to him. This shows that an experience like moving to a new place requires others to help them. Then only Clair in the school helps while everyone else dislikes him and wants him to fail, not just not acknowledge them as a person. This influenced Jamal in a bad way most of the time, he had Crawford doing everything he could to make him fail, luckily Forrester and Clair would help him find a way to get over
In the Lilies of the Field by William E. Barrett, Homer and Mother Maria both display straightforward, hardworking, and stubborn character traits. Firstly, Homer and Mother Maria both display a straightforward personality by being brutally honest about their opinions. For example, when Mother Maria asks Homer to build a chapel, Homer speaks his mind by telling her he does not want to build it. Mother Maria shows her straightforward behavior during Homer’s stay at the convent. One morning, when Homer sleeps in late, Mother to becomes extremely upset and is not afraid to show how she feels about him. Secondly, both Homer and Mother Maria display a hardworking spirit. Homer is a hardworking man because after finally agreeing to build the chapel,

When Mailor-Callow offers Jamal a scholarship, Forrester tells Jamal that he knows he will accept the offer because Jamal’s current school cannot offer Jamal the answer to a question he needs answered: What does Jamal wish to do with his life? William and Jamal’s relationship is beginning to form and William reveals Jamal’s true self to him in order to nudge him to make the right decision. He informs Jamal that his present school does not fit his desire to write. Jamal also helps Forrester in the words of Rob Brown, whom Levy quotes approvingly, “Jamal Gradually becomes committed not only to his own writing, but to cracking Forrester’s shell” (Levy, 2000, p. 2). Since Jamal and William become trusting friends, Jamal hopes to break his shell, meaning Jamal wishes to unveil Forrester’s true self, a man with a passion for writing.

The last conflict between Jamal and Mr. Crawford was when Mr. Crawford found out that Jamal had used William Forrester topic to his essay. Mr. Crawford then told Jamal that he had to write an apology letter and read it in front of the class. He also told him that he could just tell him if William Forrester gave him permission to use his title. Jamal refuse to tell them that he knew William, he also refuse to write the letter and read it out loud. Jamal told William about the two option that he was given and asked for his advice. People have goals everyday, believe it or not some people think that dreams aren't worth it. I believe that it is worth it to dream because it gives a person a goal, it makes them feel good, and it makes them stronger. I know this from The Pearl, A Cubs video, the Susan Boyle video, and We Beat the streets.
Near the beginning of Finding Forrester, Jamal and his friends are confused by the behavior of “The Window” - who later is discovered to be the author, Forrester himself, in hiding. Because Jamal and his friends are confused by Forrester’s habits - such as peering out of his corner apartment window to the basketball court the young boys haunt and the fact that they have never seen the hermit, pale from decades without seeing the sun, go outside- they find it difficult to trust him. Jamal and Forrester begin to grow closer, though, after his friends dare him to sneak into Forrester’s apartment, take a picture, and steal something. The two begin to grow close - though not without a few bumps in the road - and, as Rob Brown observes, “Forrester brings out Jamal’s intelligence, and Jamal brings Forrester back into life . . .” (Movielocity, 2001, p. 2), both Forrester and Jamal come to count on each other. Forrester is able to give Jamal an unprejudiced point of view he cannot find anywhere else, just as Jamal is able to give Forrester the courage to go out in the world and migrate back into society. When Forrester brandishes a letter opener at Jamal not long after they meet, it is because the former has forgotten how to interact with people, so he and Jamal anger each other. After being secluded from society for nigh on four decades, it is hard for Forrester to trust anyone, and Jamal is confused as to who
Not too many people thought of him as being anything more than that, due to the fact that Jamal makes mediocre grades in his school in the Bronx, he does just enough to get by and to maintain a “C” average. Jamal did not push himself any harder in the classroom than he needed to. Jamal’s passion is writing, He meets a famous old writer named William Forrester through a dare, who has been watching him when he plays basketball at the parking lots. Little do they know when they first meet what a great difference they would each eventually make for each other. William is the first to help Jamal by helping him in his writing. Jamal is a great writer but just doesn’t know it yet. William helps Jamal find himself in his writing, and Jamal prospers into quite a good writer. The help didn’t really stop there either. Jamal would tell William all about his day and
Much work goes into musical , as was the case in “Catch Me If You Can”,which La Joya Middle School drama had the pleasure of watching on January 15, put on by El Diamante High School. The musical was directed by John Sorber and Michael Tackett. This amazing production included many talented actors such as Maverik Dakota Raven starring as Frank Abagnale Jr., Kiley Hoffman playing Brenda Strong, and Jonathan Johns as Carl Hanratty. This incredible play carried a strong lesson. As was seen the protagonist ran from his problems and pretended to be someone who he wasn't. The plot of this story showed us that we can't run from our problems, for that only worsens the situation and is a snowball for our problems.
Jamal has been transformed by Forrester, before they met, Jamal was a good writer, but his imprvment was so drastic that he was accused of plagerism. Jamals transformation, obviously took effort on his end, but it also required the help of Forrester. Forrester helping Jamal in his growth was only possible becaues Jamal allowed himself to rely on Forrester as a mentor. This is an example of how external forces shaped Jamal into who he is by the end of the film. The external foce here being Forrester, who guides Jamal through his literary experience and his transition into a prestigious school. In Finding Forrester, Jamal and Forrester don’t interact in a strict student- mentor relationship, Jamal and Forrester form a friendship that alters the way that Forrester views life. Forrester relies on Jamal for companionship, this transforms his enire world. Jamal alters how Forrester thinks about his family, the manner in which he approaches the outside world, the way he thinks about his writing, others, and himself. This is reflected in his actions. “Of course, the dramatic trade off here is that Forrester helps the boy deal with the academic world, while Jamal brings Forrester back into the world of reality which the author rejected decades before.” (Clinton,

One event is when he meets William Forrester a reclusive novelist. After learning what Jamal is capable of, Forrester teaches Jamal how to harness and use his untrained skill. Around the same time Forrester discovers Jamals potential, Jamal is invited to attend a prestigious private high school. This new school even has a basketball team for Jamal to play on. This is Jamal's big chance to finally do something with his life and start to plan for his future. With the help of Forrester, Jamal is seen doing very well in his courses and even catches the eye of one of the teachers, professor Robert Crawford. Though Crawford marvels at Jamal's work, he quickly jumps to conclusions and accuses Jamal of plagiarism. This was somewhat Jamals fault, though. He took the papers from Forresters apartment, under strict instructions not too, and used them as his assignment. By doing so, Jamal is put under academic probation. Jamal is later given an ultimatum: win the basketball tournament and come to school next year as if nothing happened or risk being kicked out of school for
The film, Finding Forrester, characterizes the unlikely relationship formed, between a withdrawn, hermit writer William Forrester, and Jamal Wallace, a basketball star from the Bronx, through their mutual proclivity for the art of writing.
