Most people would disagree with worldwide issues and their problems, but i believe differently. Feeding the homeless is an positive impact, and i would like to achieve this by starting organizations, starting school fundraisers and donating more to charity. First, starting organizations can have a major impact. They collect food and they give it away to the people who needs it most. One subject that simply can not be ignored no matter where you find yourself in Anaheim. The homeless population in Anaheim is rapidly growing and there seems to be no end to this conundrum. Sadly, these poor individuals can be found anywhere some small amount of shelter is. Thus, you can constantly find them lingering around parks or on the sides of freeways waiting to beg the next passerby for enough money to make it through the day. In Anaheim they can usually found at the various parks we have around the city. The heart of a person is only so delicate to feel remorse or sadness whilst the less fortunate of society wanders within their eyes. Healthcare for the Homeless (HCH) started in 1985 and was one of the first 19 Federal Funded projects. In the early 80’s, they recognized that homelessness was an issue. In 1987, it was operated out of bonds in Liberty Heights. In 1989, they moved to Park Ave and stayed there for 20 years. In 2010, they moved to Fallsway and still are there till this day and are expanding their building. HCH provides tons of services for the homeless population such as physical health care services, behavioral health care services, and supportive services such as finding housing, keeping housing, finding jobs and much more. HCH wants to decrease the homeless population statistics and provide second chances for everyone individual.
“Homelessness can be the cause as well as the result of poor health” (Wise, Emily, Debrody, Corey &ump; Paniucki, Heather, 1999, p.445). This is a reoccurring theme that has existed within the homeless population for decades. While programs to help reduce this constant circle are being put in place all over the country to provide medical services for the homeless to be able to go to, many are still finding that health care needs for individuals as well as homeless communities are not being met. Many studies have been completed that study both the opinion on healthcare by those who have access to sufficient health care and homeless people’s perceptions on health care administration. While many companies are working to provide more personal health care systems, it appears that the larger problem is with a lack of people know about the health care systems that are in place to help them. Companies are trying to advertise more often to inform homeless people that there is health care out there for them.

While Soup Kitchens are a way to feed the poor or homeless, it not a program that effectively helps the homeless onto their feet, it simply keeps them fed. In the city of Los Angeles, there are about 27,000 homeless people who are unsheltered, that’s 1 in 378. There are various factors that cause homelessness; these include a decline in public assistance, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, job loss, divorce, low wages, poverty, severe depression, physical disabilities or mental illnesses. From the year 2011 to 2012, the number of homeless people skyrocketed. In New York City alone, there are more homeless people in the year 2014 than there were in the recession of the 1980s. Continuing to develop and evolve the plans in place to aid those living in poverty, while weeding out the ones taking advantage of the system and programs, preventing those who really need the boost from obtaining it. A good example is Habit for Humanity, where the disadvantaged individuals are required to put in work to build their home. Then they are strongly encouraged to support the construction of additional homes in the area and respect the hard work they put into building those homes. This not only gives them a home to live in at a reduced cost but trains them in a new skill that they would not have the opportunity to learn otherwise. We as citizens can take action, but we only have so much we can do alone to help reduce poverty. The struggle to stay alive in an uninviting climate with nothing but the clothes on your back, doesn’t seem very fun. Yet in the media, being homeless is still treated like a joke. I attended Mary’s Kitchen on June 18, 2016 at 517 W Struck Ave, Orange, California 82867. I heard about this organization from one of my instructor who is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International. Mary’s Kitchen is a non-profit organization that helps less fortunate people in the Orange County. It is run by all volunteers as they provide compassionate care to others. The Sigma Theta Tau International has set up a Homeless Outreach Tent Clinic at Mary’s Kitchen. I visited the Homeless Outreach Tent Clinic. I had the opportunity to volunteer and meet a lot of nurses. We started at 9 in the morning and finished at 12 in the afternoon. I really enjoyed volunteering there as it made me more aware about poverty and the needs of homeless population.
Imagine eating Christmas dinner underneath a bridge on the cold dirt because you and your family were evicted from your home. Just trying to find a single meal is what thousands of people, who live on the street, go through each day. They have been kicked out of their houses and apartments because they can't afford rent due to their low paying jobs.
As everything advances, so do humans. However, there are problems that get left behind in its current state. Homelessness is a problem in my community I would like to see improvement in. the homeless population unfortunately is growing due to many reasons like high rent, loss of jobs and many other personal problems. Though many people complain about this problem, minimal action is taken. As I grow older and find my place in this community, I would like to help contribute to the solution of this problem.
In society, the whole( being society) takes responsibility for all its members. Hunger and Homelessness. If only some people of a society belong to a community, it falls short of a community status. The social conditions in which homeless youth find themselves, may result in absence of or poor access to nutritious food. This can be defined as food insecurity, where an individual has the inability to consume an adequate diet (Health Canada, 2012). For the youth living on streets, education becomes an obstacle, which may lead to unstable work, and therefore inconsistent income. They have to settle with low value jobs to earn just enough to feed themselves on a daily basis – the hand-to-mouth concept. Therefore, there are very limited options that the homeless youth are left with when it comes to food. When buying food, they tend to choose the cheaper alternative foods which are usually unhealthy and have little to no nutritional value to the body. Examples of these kinds of food include pizza, burgers, or perishable food items that are ready-to-eat (Dachner & Tarasuk, 2002). From our everyday experience, one can say that too much unhealthy foods can cause long-term health issues, ranging from diabetes to heart disease. Eventually, the immune system weakens, and serious complications may occur for the individual. It may be difficult for the homeless youth to access any health care services; so many times the symptoms for these diseases can go undiagnosed. At times, the homeless youth tend to go extending periods of time without food, resulting in intense hunger. Hunger is the consequence of food insecurity. It is the resulting feeling of discomfort, weakness, illness and pain – all of which play a great role on the health of youth (Jovanovic, Lecture 9).
