GUILT TO THE RESCUE? The feeling of guilt doesn’t always necessarily prevent a person from doing it because sometimes guilt gets overridden by other stronger feelings. Whenever you feel guilty you can choose to listen and deal with your guilt or you can use ignore it and allow it to manifest inside of you forever. Occasionally we ignore the guilt we are feeling because it's something that seems to have no harm to anybody else. For example, in The Scarlet Ibis the kid never thought or realized that he was in a way always putting doodle into danger. He always let his pride cloud his guilt. In high school some people are obsessed with their reputation and will do anything for it to be good. To have a cool or good reputation sometime you have to do things that could hurt other people. In the movie Easy-A, Olive the main character isn’t worried about her reputation until her best friend Brandon comes to her with a proposition. Brandon is being bullied at school for not being as macho as other boys in school. Brandon proposes that maybe if she could help him seem more macho in front of the popular guys. After she agrees, they come up with a plan to fake - loudly behind a locked door - a deflowering scene. After this goes down Brandon is shown to be a big macho man and Olive forms a bad reputation. Later on in the movie she embraces this reputation and sews a red A to her chest like the Scarlet Letter. This movie shows how many different things people do for a good reputation. Brandon reputation changes for the better and olives reputation changes for the worse. Brandon blocked out his guilt for a better reputation by not caring if this could affect olive in any
