The Avengers is a 2012 super hero film featuring multiple heroes from the Marvel universe. It features a range of stars from previous Marvel films including Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr. and Thor’s Chris Hemsworth, among many others. When this film was released it was met with wide spread praise, and it is easy to see why. The film offers so much more to the audience than just action sequences and cool costumes, it is actually a well thought out and executed movie. One interesting thing about the movie is that each of the main characters have a unique goal in the film, but they are all able to work together. Each character has a different back story and role in the context of the film. Thor and Black Widow are fearless leaders, Hulk and Captain America are heroes that are haunted by personal issues, and Iron Man is the comic relief. They all join the team at different times for different reasons. Black Widow is called in to help recruit Bruce Banner, Captain America and Iron Man are approached in person, and Thor joins because he has a connection to the mission. Hawkeye is with Nick Furry from the start, but is under Loki’s control for a majority of the movie. They all go through their own struggles, but they support each other through it,
All of the male characters are portrayed as typical physically strong characters. However, they all have their weaknesses. Iron Man can be seen as arrogant and full of himself. Bruce Banner has problems controlling his anger while Thor and Captain America are both stand offish and cold. Hawkeye is also a physically strong, take charge, male character. However, his downfall in the movie is that he spends most of the time under Loki’s control, but this isn’t really his fault.
