A common topic in “1984” is people infiltrating your life trying to find out if you were having different thoughts then you were suppose to have. This could relate to the modern era like terrorism in which they send people over to infiltrate get information of the people in the United States to plan attacks where they can cause the most impact. They would also infiltrate small children by putting them in schools to learn how to turn in there parents, other people, and even brainwashing them to see the party as right. A example of this is seen when Parsons who was Winston's neighbor was denounced by his own daughter. The mind reading of this society is one of the biggest aspect as it made you feel unsafe at any given time. A society like this could rise as more virtual equipment is being developed, and could be the beginning of technology that could read your mind in the nearing future. This would affect the role of the government and laws as they being in your mind could make you believe whatever they wanted like “2+2=5.” The government could also achieve this method by not exactly reading your thoughts but by brainwashing, you like in North Korea where they see there leader as a god and everything he does is perfect, like a big brother type figure. This way they don’t know your exact thoughts but they make you believe in what they want you to believe in assuring them your thoughts are with them due to the consequences if you deny them. The whole mind reading described by Orwell could be obtained by many methods and some countries might have already achieved without the technological advancement.
If the Dystopian Society had any democracy like characteristics in it; it was not shown to the reader in the book “1984.” Orwell’s views on the Dystopian Society are of a government strong on observation, infiltration, and mind reading making it appear that anyone who lives in this kind of society is not safe even in the comfort of their own mind.
