MLK Essay “We must build dikes of courage to hold back the flood of fear” is a famous quote spoken by Martin Luther King Junior during the late 1960’s during one of his sermons. This quote means that the masses of good people must unite together as one to hold back the powerful forces of racism and hate. Despite what some may think, persecution of many different races and ethnicities is still very prevalent in our so called “civilized society”. When this quote was spoken my Dr. Martin Luther King Junior during his sermon “Antidotes for Fear” he was not only talking about racism, he was talking about the persecution that we experience. People are judged by their religion, what they wear, who they talk to, the color of their skin, when in reality, we are all children under the same God. If all of the good people of this world locked arms and stood together against all of hate and evil, you would find that the love far outnumbers the hate. No longer can we just stand by and watch the floods of fear wash right over the small dikes of courage consisting of people who are not scared to stand up for what they believe in. While you should always stand up for your beliefs, there will be those who want to control you and will tell you to sit back down and deal with it.
