Inches In the movie Any Given Sunday, Al Pacino states one of the best quotes ever, “Life is just a game of inches.” As small as inches can be, they can be the biggest things in our lives. The drive for inches is what brings out determination. Determination is something that I value because in the grand scheme of things it’ll define if I’m a winner or a loser. Think of the game of basketball, for example. Put yourself in this situation; basketball practice is about to end and you're on the last sprint, your legs feel non-existent, but, sadly, coach yells, “GO” and you need to find the energy to move. Somehow you start running as fast as your body allows and you amazingly reach the opposite baseline, you plant your feet two inches before touching the baseline and start running the opposite direction until you finish your sprint. You might not have realized it, but you just lost the immense value of what two inches can potentially provide. Success doesn't come easy and every inch to get there is crazy valuable. In this case, success is measured by being determined to train harder, and, with that, success will be shown on the court …show more content…

My basketball coach always says this quote before breaking a huddle and it states, “There is no elevator to success.” Basically, shortcuts aren't an option and you have to outweigh that with your determination to finish things. I can do anything in life, from getting that job promotion, to becoming a great businessman, to becoming a millionaire, or even attending one of the best universities worldwide and becoming an Aggie. Just remember In the words of Will Smith, “If you want something, go get it. Period.” Getting out of your comfort zone, studying harder, working longer hours, and having the never give up attitude, are just a few ways I can get those extra inches.
