The third ethical issue in this movie is “Choice of money over family” Gordon Gekko is a greedy and smart person. He had set up a trust fund account in Switzerland in 1980s for his daughter, Winnie when she was 14. There is around $100 million in the account. Gekko told Winnie that once he was get out of the jail, he would use that money to reassert himself but Winnie reneged when her brother, Rudy died. Winnie believe that the death of her brother is cause by his father, Gekko. Winnie is dating with Jacob Moore. Godon Gekko mentioned the money to Jacob and propose a solution to him to use the money for his fusion development project. Jacob meet Winnie at her office. The first one is Gekko feels that family is more important that money after watched the ultrasound of his grandson. In addition, Jacob had told to Gekko no matter how much money you make, you will never be rich when Jacob want to claim back the money from Gekko in London. This is also a reason that make Gekko felt guilty. After consideration, he give back the money to Winnie. Another possible reasons that Gekko give back the money to Winnie is because it is a big plan of Gekko. Gekko want to use those money to make more money before he returns the money to Winnie. He needed the money to make something bigger than the plans of Jacob and Winnie. He wanted to buy time. He had been wasted lots of year in jail. He need the money and the time to fix his name, his reputation. However, breaking the promise is unethical no matter what motive or what reasons that make Gekko refuse giving back the money to Winnie and Jocob in the beginning. If Gekko are plan to use the money “first” for his investment firm, he should discus with Jacob and his daughter, Winnie. As we can see in the movie, although Gekko had successful turn $100 million into $1.1 Billion. But he is always
