Government Control on School Lunches Some kids go to school not knowing when they will have their next meal, but the government helps with that assurance for children when they arrive. Many components of school lunches have advanced throughout the years with the government's help. The government controls our meals to help students and families. The government should have a say in our school lunches. Government controlled school lunches are good for students for which they help with learning, provide meal plans, and improve in taste.
School lunches’ nutrition helps with children’s learning. The nourishment within the fruits and vegetables the school provides will help the kids focus on what they are doing during the day. Since the foods are more healthy and filling the child will not have to go through the day feeling like they have an empty stomach and concentrate on the teacher. For most children whose families cannot afford school lunch there are programs for them to be apart of. Programs like School Breakfast Program and the National School Lunch Program are just a few that were created for students to use. Millions of children participate in the SBP and NSLP each school day. Children from families with incomes greater than 130% poverty level are eligible for the free lunch plan (Baxter 1). If the government no longer controls our school lunches it is likely schools will lose the free reduced lunch programs. Lunches have started to taste better. “It tastes fresh and there’s not so much processed feel” (Sylvester 2). The food provided is more crisp and natural than the old processed food. More natural foods tend to be better for children along with the factor of it tasting a whole lot better.
