The Equal Justice Initiative is an American organization. It aims to give prisoners a voice, especially prisoners from the minority black community from which one third of its men are in imprison. The organization wants to ensure that people who are wrongly imprisoned are given fairness and justice, and also the system is reformed and better rehabilitation for all. This organization calls for a reform of the justice system and any prejudice against blacks, which is racially motivated. The organization seeks redress through legal means. It operates as a not for profit law firm. It also helps with the reintegration of inmates into society. Through research and studies, the Equal Justice Initiative creates awareness by citing the connection between historical prejudices of racial injustice linked to discrimination in the American justice system, and in particular the criminal justice system in the United States of America. The Equal Justice Initiative is an answer to the call of society at large for fairness and just treatment for minority blacks in particular. Simply pressure from the public such as the recent group called “Black Lives Matter” would be not enough without pressure from legal organizations such as the Equal Justice Initiative. In addition to public outcry, the Equal Justice Initiative ensures that the efforts of all are not in vain and can be followed up through legal means and in the right channels where the decisions that matter are taken and can be implemented for a difference and for change in the systemic attitude of discrimination against people of color and in this case the black minority of the United States of
