According to Epicurus, the thing that is in our power, is the authority over ourselves, that we have regarding our capacity to judge what is good and what is evil. Our opinion is up to us and our impulse, desire-aversion in short, whatever is in our own doing, is in our power. We have power over our own mind. Things in our power are by nature free, unhindered, untrammeled. That we have power over. Things that are not in our power, include the body, property, reputation, office and in a word everything which is not our doing.
