Is the Loop Bus as beneficial to students as it should be? The SGA Loop Bus is a service provided to Duquesne University students by the Student Government Association. It is a three fleet bus system that provides transportation from Duquesne University to Southside, Oakland, and Waterfront that is operated on Friday and Saturday during the academic school year. It is the subject of one of the major gripes with Duquesne University and is not quite what it is cracked up to be. There are many consequences due to the inconsistencies of the Loop Bus making it not only irritable to wait for but places you in danger.

Identifying the Problem

The Issue and its Origins
The issue at hand is that Duquesne University students are displeased with the transportation services available to them specifically the SGA Loop Bus. I believe Matt Liberatore speaks for the majority of students when he commented (about the Loop Bus) saying, “It is not as effective as it should be. They’re inconsistent, and aren’t enough prevalent as they should be.” Problems were evident from the beginning of its existence. The Loop Bus is a free service to students of Duquesne University that runs Friday and Saturday beginning at 5:00 in the evening and ending as early as 12:30 and as late as 2:30am. This leads to many cases of being stranded in unfamiliar places throughout the city. Matt also commented on how was inconvenienced during his freshman and sophomore years where he remembers waiting hours until another bus would come because the previous was too small.
Who is responsible?

...ting has proven to have significant faults that are imperative to solve. The most practical resolution is to dispose of the Loop Bus in favor of U-Passes for all students through Port Authority. This will allow students to explore Pittsburgh when it is convenient for them at anytime, night or day.
