Characters Of Destruction There were a lot of downfalls in the play leading to Romeo and Juliet’s demise. The two major people leading to their downfall were Friar Laurence and the Nurse. Although the two lovers end up dying because of their love for each other, Friar Lawrence and the Nurse inadvertently create problems for the two lovers . Although it was not a bad idea to think that it would stop that family feud and all the fighting in Verona, it was a clear mistake for Friar Lawrence to marry Romeo and Juliet . Friar Lawrence tells Romeo that “These violent delights have violent ends. Is loathsome in his own deliciousness, and in the taste confounds the appetite.Therefore love moderately: long love doth so, too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.”(Act 2 Scene 6 Lines 9-15) When he says this, he is giving Romeo a warning about how he is moving too …show more content…

Thy husband in thy bosom there lies dead,And Paris, too.Come , I’ll dispose of thee Among a sisterhood of holy nuns.”(5 3 159-162) Friar Lawrence is being selfish by helping Juliet hide in a convent so that he would not get in trouble with the Prince and the Capulets . The Nurse also contributes to the downfall by agreeing to bring the rope ladder and delivering messages for the couple,and keeps their love a secret from Juliets parents.The Nurse tells Romeo,”Good heart, and i’ faith I will tell her as much. Lord, Lord, she will be a joyful woman.”(2 4 177-178) When the Nurse agrees to tell Juliet that Romeo loves her, she is deliberately helping the couple and also going against the rules of Juliet’s family.Romeo tells the Nurse, “Within this hour my man shall be with thee And bring thee cords made like a tackled stair.”(2 4 191-192) . The Nurse then brings the ladder for Romeo to use to climb up the balcony so that they could be together on their wedding night . Once again she is helping Romeo and Juliet rather than telling the Capulets that Juliet was married to a Montague
