A plopping sound echoes as a bass breaks the peaceful and statue still water, forming a ripple in a perfect circle. A few white pelicans are attracted by the disturbance and levitate above in search of their prey. As I lay beneath the willowing Cypress I notice the tangled undergrowth and vines make the lake appear darker. A dragonfly lands on my finger; I lift my head in wonder to see it’s metallic blue flutter. I am sad and know my parents are worried where I have gone. The feeling of warmth and comfort transcends upon me with fond memories of family gatherings around this great lake in Louisiana. Memories that will change from this day forward. Today, as I gaze out unto the Lake, I see this body of water as something totally different; I see my grandfather’s love. I will miss our stars and stripes swimsuits, the flag adorned dock, the red, white and blue party barge and the twinkle lights in the trees. I will miss the smell of barbeque and beer, watermelon and apple pie. I will miss the loud music and dancing, along with tubing and water skiing. I will miss the huge sunset, the chirping cricket and the festive fireworks. This tradition allowed my family from all over Louisiana to know each other and appreciate our Louisiana heritage. Having these incredible memories make Lake D'arbonne my favorite place on earth. …show more content…

It has become really hard for me to get over the fact that I will not see him on this earth again. I feel distant with the only thing left to bring us close is being at this lake. Through two puffy clouds, heaven’s light reflects off the murky water and I feel his presence. He loved the sunrise and the sunset and everything the sun did to the lake.
