I. LEVELS OF DEMONIC BONDAGE There are different levels at which people can be under demonic bondage. True deliverance is therefore administered for the total emancipation of man from all manner of demonic bondage. According to Victor Uchegbulam, demonic bondage operates at the following levels: a) Demonic Possession This is the most common and predominant form of demonic bondage. A biblical example in this case is the one mentioned in Mark chapter five where it is reported that one fellow was possessed of an unclean spirit. The word “possess” implies ownership; which means that his mind and will were completely taken over by the devil. Obsession is actually the torment of the mind. Christians are also not immune from this level of demonic bondage. Some Christians have a problem of being obsessed with the fear of the devil that they tend to see his demons in everything. This is obsession! Little do they realize that God has never intended for us to be demon-centered, but God-centered. As a result, they spend much of their time casting demons. This then raises a question of how much do they trust God for their protection, not to mention what God Himself promised to us as our means of protection in His Word, e.g. Angelic protection (Psalms 34:7; Hebrews 1: 14). Demonic obsession starts with an occasional or gradual torment until the person’s mind is completely under demonic control. A biblical example relates to the epileptic case found in Matthew 17:14. Demonic drams are a clearest example of the torment of one’s mind because dreaming is the work of the faculty of the mind. We dream because our minds continue to function even when we are asleep. For this reason natural dreams are a result of our minds rehearsing events captured through perception during the day. However, as much as there are natural dreams there are spiritual dreams as well. For instance, concerning sickness, the Apostle Peter preached, “ How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38). It is thus, evident in this scripture that sickness and diseases are all forms of satanic oppression. If you are not at ease, you are obviously dis- eased. Guess what: – the devil has a part in it!
