I. LEVELS OF DEMONIC BONDAGE There are different levels at which people can be under demonic bondage. True deliverance is therefore administered for the total emancipation of man from all manner of demonic bondage. According to Victor Uchegbulam, demonic bondage operates at the following levels: a) Demonic Possession This is the most common and predominant form of demonic bondage. A biblical example in this case is the one mentioned in Mark chapter five where it is reported that one fellow was possessed of an unclean spirit. The word “possess” implies ownership; which means that his mind and will were completely taken over by the devil. Obsession is actually the torment of the mind. Christians are also not immune from this level of demonic bondage. Some Christians have a problem of being obsessed with the fear of the devil that they tend to see his demons in everything. This is obsession! Little do they realize that God has never intended for us to be demon-centered, but God-centered. As a result, they spend much of their time casting demons. This then raises a question of how much do they trust God for their protection, not to mention what God Himself promised to us as our means of protection in His Word, e.g. Angelic protection (Psalms 34:7; Hebrews 1: 14). Demonic obsession starts with an occasional or gradual torment until the person’s mind is completely under demonic control. A biblical example relates to the epileptic case found in Matthew 17:14. Demonic drams are a clearest example of the torment of one’s mind because dreaming is the work of the faculty of the mind. We dream because our minds continue to function even when we are asleep. For this reason natural dreams are a result of our minds rehearsing events captured through perception during the day. However, as much as there are natural dreams there are spiritual dreams as well. There have been numerous accounts where the media exaggerates certain cases. For example in Hammond, Louisiana there was a man named Pastor Louis Lamonica Jr. He was pastor of the local church in town, he also happened to be a psychopath and a rapist. The media claimed the man was a Satanist because he had raped children in a church when in fact he thought that was what God wanted of him. The Pastor was not alone in these horrid crimes his accomplices included, his wife Robin, Austin Trey Bernard, and Austin’s wife Nicole Bernard. The group raped numerous babies and supposedly slaughter animals in the name of Satan however, there is no evidence proving the latter ever occurred. The only reason the case got misinterpreted as a case of Satanic Ritual Abuse was that Lammonica described the youth room where they committed such terrible crimes as black and as everyone knows The Church of Satan runs out of The Black House. This case became so publicized that it even got an episode of HBO’s True Detective made about it. Of course, in the show it was far more gruesome and demonic than the real event which did not involve the devil or Satanism in any form. In Luke 11:14 one can see the power of Christ over demons, “And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute; when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds were amazed.” Another place in scripture that we can see where evil gets its power from is in the book of Job.
