In Australia one of the main demographic changes is the ageing of the population and this is occurring due to the lowering of the fertility rates and the ability to live longer. Our country also has more representation of the older citizens and the Bureau of Statics believes that by 2065, our population would have 23-25% of those who are elderly and these changes not only effect the nation but families as well. This shows how well our nation is preventing maternity and infant mortality and the choices of women having their children later in life. And in Australia the health care industry still relies on co payment means for financing their services which means more cost for the patients using these services. But to make the cost a little lower for the public many of the health care workers are being paid by many ways such as using salaries, fee for service, and payments which are by day means. Another issue with economical sustainability within the Health care sector is the cost of providing health care services within the rural and remote areas and this is shown with those who live in rural or remote communities live 1-2 year or even 7 years shorter than those who live within metropolitan areas. And with the aged care reforms it enables people to have more choice, control and easier access to services involved within aged care. And with these reforms it enables people to live at home longer, a work force within the aged care which is stronger and more options with advocating for the clients using the Aged care services. And within the aged care industry there are around 350,000 workers who work across nearly 21,000 aged care providers. One of the main legislations that make sure that those using the aged care services are being looked after is The Aged Care Act which makes sure that those using aged care services are not being discriminated against due to their gender, cultural views, language, geographical location and economic status. And also under the aged act, it enables aged care facilities to receive funding depending of the quality of care and service provided and that the client’s needs are met.
